Magazine: Sound Base Date : Nov. 1999 Reviewer: Melanie Erbe Hier haetten wir also das Debutalbum zweier Daenen, die die Welt veraendern wollen. Zumindest in Sachen Industrial- Musik. 3/5 Magazine: Beyond The Wall of Sleep Date : ? Reviewer: Lidane Livering (REF) Sort of a hard way to describe this band as either a harsh noize ebm band or just a really experimental form of it. Well, you read my mind, A + P is wery experimental considering it moves in dancy moods. Lots of weird and interesting noize guitar feedbacks, power electronics, deep doomy beats and heavily distorted vocals. If you think that this band sound interesting you might as well check out the live review with text and pictures taken from the show. 7 out of 10. Magazine: Klirrfaktor Date : August, 1999 Reviewer: ? Nur ab und zu mal scheint so ein leichter Hauch von :wumpsvogtstripcommando: durchzuscheinen, wie zum Beispiel bei "skumfuk (vox effects)", aber darüber sollte man aufgrund der Komplexität der restlichen Platte einfach hinwegsehen.[8/10] Magazine: Nezzwerk Seven Date : July 23, 1999 Reviewer: Anton arzt+pfusch is a two-man band that came from denmark. they have recently appeared on "septic" compilation released by "dependent". the band creates the music that is extremely evil, dark, sarcastic and full of hate. steady ebm is overlayed with dense noise patterns with evil vocals ripping through the music layers. i couldn't help remembering b-ton-k while listening to this album - this is where b-ton-k could have gone with their second release. the thickness and density of melodies surpasses most of the things i have heard lately. it could be the next step that ebm will take evolving as a genre. blending hard breakbeats, complex noise elements, harsh abrasive vocals to create very solid and complex multilayered compositions. the lyrics and the vocals are so evil and full of hate that at times it becomes just humorous, and i hope this was the effect that was intended. the music never becomes too repetitive or boring (a common problem for many ebm and noise acts). the samples help to create the atmosphere and really add a lot to the music (this is definitely for those of you that like to play "guess that sample" game). album starts with an atmospheric track called "chains" that makes a good introduction to the disk followed by "schwarze sonne" - a great harsh track with slow pounding beat and the whirling noisy pattern on the background. "it" - dark slow track filled with rather interesting samples that fit the music really well; yet another distorted atmospheric piece. "skumfuck (vox effects)" - one of the best songs on the album with random clicks and screeches, aggressive noisy percussion, complex multilayered structure. "boneloc" - crushing hard track that slowly builds up to a typical hard ebm track. if you came from metal background (like i did) you definitely will like this album that is the great answer to the death-metal bands of early 90s. this is the band that creates the music that is a lot more complex and harsh than anything that can be created with the use of guitars. this is the future, so don't miss it. Magazine: Totentanz (online magazine) Date : July 26, 1999 Reviewer: Nicolas Arzt + Pfusch is one band, this is not a split CD, and don't ask those crazy Danish, or they answer with the title of their record ("Why?"). And stop making fun of them, since A+P's debut is one of the most exciting electro acts coming from Europe since several months. Coming out of strongly alcohol and humour influenced group of musicians from Denmark, they deliver to us something you're not going to forget easily. A+P's music is very heavy. The sound are harsh and low, the voice is ultra distorted, and the rhythms, even, if several songs are dancefloor oriented, are what I'd call subtile. But, on the other hand, this album sounds fresh and quite innovative. Even if they stay in the dark electro boundaries, A+P have delivers us a CD with a real mood here. All the elements are very well thoughts and the production is above the scene standards. One of the particularities of Arzt + Pfusch lies in their mixing of very dark and aggressive music (like the orchestral opening of "Chain" or hits like "Schwarze Sonne" or "Anal Toothbrush") and a strong sense of homour, embodied in samples, lyrics or comments in the CD cover ("If you have bougt this CD your life will suck"). This band manages to sound intelligent (as it doesn't fall in the clichés of this scene) without stopping to be dancefloor-friendly and definitely dark. Musically speaking, the sound of A+P is not that close to other bands. Even if you can recognize some Suicide Commando or Leaether Strip influences, it doesn't sound like a copy of anything I know. The tempo is not very fast, but the beat are very heavy, and I'm quite sure that dancing to A+P is harmful to your sense of hearing. So beware of the doctors, beware of A+P (but get this record!) and enjoy! Magazine: New Empire (online magazine) Date : ? Reviewer: Koschei23 Review: Here is the debut (for the world) CD of this strange Danish band that brought us the track "Skumfuk" on the brilliant Septic compilation CD early this year! The entire CD is a mixture of heavily distorted industrial and noise tracks, mixed up with many (funny)samples from horror films and computer games!! Der Doktor and Dr. A-Funz makeup this band, and they have set out to make a goofy, strange blend of aggro-electronics and harsh noisy sounds! Track 1 "Chain" is really just a long intro-track consisting of movie samples set to slow music. Track 2 "Schwarze Sonne" is a bit more evil sounding in nature, and builds slowly with some German vocal samples added in for good measure. Here, a hard backbeat is set, and then it carries on throughout the song. Harshly distorted vocals emerge, and they sound similar (at times)to some of those Nordic death metal bands! Track 3 "Anal Toothbrush (Family Business" has an even harsher, distorted power to it. Here, hard drum beats are present, the vocals are still heavily distorted, and the electronics are really interesting with their changes in structure and tempo. "Symble Pharon" sounds more like the usual industrial track. Here we have some fast-paced percussion, and swirling synths, with crazy, evil vocals added in to sound like Skinny Puppy on acid. "It" is a quick track with silly samples taken from the popular computer game Starcraft. This track is kind of useless in my opinion. "Skumfuk (Vox Effects)" is next, and it is the track from the Septic sampler. Nothing really different here, just great EBM-style backbeats, noisy percussion, and exciting harsh vocals! Still one of this band's best tracks! "Boneloc" is another track laden with samples from horror/crime films, and it has a hard drumbeat throughout. The vocals are still heavily distorted, but the keyboards are well-done. "Eier" is nothing but a 'dream-track', meaning that it is quiet, and repetitious, lulling the listener to sleep. Perhaps some more samples from Starcraft are present here, but in a looped pattern. "Hindenburg (Reburnt)" is a track that consists of about 2-3 minutes of slow building, unexciting music, that in the last minute or so, allows for some vocals to come in. The strange noises and keyboard structures do add some wonderfullness to this track. "E-Coli 0157" is a true noise track. Here we have some power-noise structures broken down somewhat, with distorted vocals added in for good measure. Sounds a little bit similar to Sonar, noisy Controlled Bleeding, and Tumor, this track is one for fans of noisy industrial-electro. The final track, "Arzt+Pfusch" is a long one that the band recommends (on their website)to be played at midnight on 31 December 1999 around the world, and thus will be a soundtrack to the new millenium. This track is more pounding noise with movie samples added in. Nothing new here. Overall, a great disc for fans of this type of noisy industrial music! It blends elements of Noisex, Sonar, Tumor, death metal bands, and similar bands into one over-powering mass of evil music! It does earn a 6 for coolness due to the medical theme of the CD insert booklet. It will be interesting to see what this band does next! Available in Europe on Eraser/Nova Tekk, and soon to be released in the USA! Rating 4 (of 5), Coolness 6 Magazine: deadwyre (online magazine) Date : ? Reviewer: ? Yes, there are more boundaries to be broken. Surprisingly enough, the doktors behind this project prove this point beyond recognition! Some bands like to stay with the flow of things working to keep up with other who have made it and seem to pave the boundaries. Well this band doesn’t obey the rules, they don’t follow the leaders, and they don’t conform. But what they do introduce is a new monster of industrial destructiveness. Comparisons are hard to place and I won’t name any because it’s simply not appropriate! Hell, it might even be an insult! But, what I can tell you is that this band works with terrorizing sound manips, bizarre as hell samples, pummeling unmerciful beat structures, abysmally dark strings, and unkind ear-tearing voxx. Much irony is placed throughout this disk which seems to be a trademark of these insane surgeons of sound. This is also apparent on cd layout as well, very funny and very cool! Tracks such as "Schwarze Sonne", "Anal Toothbrush", "Skumfuk", & "Boneloc" are flawless and provide the listener with the most satisfaction! But overall this disc is one of the most original new bands to arise from the ashes! GEt this from NovaTekk MEdia! This Denmark based band opens your mind to new things, you may not understand at first, but soon you Will gET IT!
